IPL 2021 Auctions- Ahead of the IPL 2021, a mini-auction will be held in Chennai on February 18. A total of 1,097 have registered their names for the richest T20 league in the world. The list includes 283 overseas players and the remaining from India.
Today, we will look at the Chennai SuperKings (CSK) lineup and the players they might bid for in the upcoming auctions. The Dhoni-led team has only one overseas slot left out of the seven available slots. The yellow army has Rs 22.9 crore for IPL 2021 auction.
MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, KM Asif, Deepak Chahar, Dwayne Bravo, Faf du Plessis, Imran Tahir, N Jagadeesan, Karn Sharma, Lungi Ngidi, Mitchell Santner, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shardul Thakur, Sam Curran, Josh Hazlewood, R Sai Kishore
Kedar Jadhav, Murali Vijay, Harbhajan Singh, Piyush Chawla, Monu Singh, Shane Watson
List of players that CSK may bid in IPL 2021 Auctions:
Steve Smith could be the right replacement for the Chennai Super Kings as they need a player who can lead the side.
This is because Dhoni is likely to retire from IPL after the end of this season. Smith has earlier captained Rising Pune Supergiants (now defunct) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). The 31-year-old has scored 311 runs in the last season, including three half-centuries.
The ‘Chinna Thala’ army can also bid for the attacking batsman Glenn Maxwell as they need someone to help Dhoni chase the targets.
Maxwell failed to do well with the bat in the previous season, but we have often heard that saying ‘form is temporary, but class is permanent’. The batting all-rounder did well in the recently concluded Big Bash League (BBL).
Aaron Finch/ Jason Roy
In the absence of Shane Watson, CSK might look forward to buying either of Aaron Finch or Jason Roy.
The latter has done well in the BBL scoring 355 runs in 12 matches. On the other hand, Finch has been left out of the RCB after failing with the bat in IPL 13. He did not perform well in BBL either. But Finch can be bought at a lower price.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman
The Chennai squad could buy Mujeeb Ur Rahman for IPL 2021. The Afghanistan spinner is out of form for some time but has great stats in the T20 format.
He has 145 wickets in 132 matches at an economy of 6.6, making him a powerful contender to fill the slots left by Harbhajan Singh and Piyush Chawla.
The Indian spinner can play a crucial role for the CSK in the Indian Premier League’s upcoming edition.
The 32-year-old can be used smartly in home matches (Chepauk Stadium) for Chennai. Moreover, Gowtham won’t cost much to the Chennai-based franchise as he is yet to find his breakthrough season.
