The talisman has been leading the Indian cricket team for the last 6-7 years. But do you know that Virat was always the captain of his side?

A letter from Virat’s school went viral on social media where it is mentioned that he is the captain of Delhi’s U-15 team. The letter dates back to 27 September 2003.  The school issued the letter to announce that three students including Virat have been selected to Delhi’s U-15 team.

Virat as Captain

Virat came in limelight for the first time when he led the Indian U-19 team to the championship in the 2008 U-19 World Cup. The talismanic batsman made his India debut in the same year. In no time, cricket fans started looking at him as the next big thing in the Indian cricket.

In the middle of India’s tour of Australia in 2014, MS Dhoni took the shocking decision to retire from Test cricket. This was the first time that Virat led the Indian side. However, he could not help India win that series.

Letter on in 2016, when Dhoni stepped down as the captain of the limited-overs team, Virat became the captain and under his leadership, India reached the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy. However, India could not win the final against arch-rivals Pakistan. Virat also led the team to the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup.

Virat Kohli as captain has not won any ICC trophy and now all eyes are on the World Test Championship final, where India and New Zealand will face each other.

Meanwhile, Virat is leading his Indian Premier League’s team Royal Challengers Banglore (RCB). Virat’s is the only side in this season to remain unbeaten, with three wins in three games. RCB will take on Rajasthan Royals in their next game in Mumbai on Thursday.
