IPL 2021: Ahead of MI vs RCB clash, Yuzvendra Chahal’s form returns as he shines during practice game :Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have managed to assess the current form of various players in their squad by playing an intra-squad practice match. The players who emerged with flying colours from the match are leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, batsman Rajat Patidar, and all-rounder Harshal Patel.

RCB’s squad is limited to 12 players currently due to other members of the squad being in quarantine. Hence, the coaching staff – Head Coach Simon Katich and Director of Cricket Operations Mike Hesson – devised a unique formula.

They got their best bowlers to bowl to the best available batsmen in the first innings and then allow those who didn’t get a good knock in to bat again in the second innings.

In the first innings of the match, Yuzvendra Chahal captained the bowling unit and led from the front with a spell of 2/20. The batting hits came from Patidar who scored 54 off 35 while Suyash Prabhudesai managed a cameo of 25 off 15. The first innings ended at 153 all out.

In reply, the side batting second chased down the target in just 17.2 overs. All-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed scored 39 off 15 while Srikar Bharat remained unbeaten on 38 off 28.

Harshal Patel though, shone brightest with an impressive effort in both batting and bowling. According to Hesson, he bowled tightly in both the powerplay overs as well as the death overs and got his team to the target, in the chase, with an innings of around 30.

At the start of the match, coach Katich was heard telling the players: “You all know what your individual role is within the squad. So, from a bowling and batting perspective, today is about the freedom for guys to go out there and play as you would usually play, given the situation,…Play well and we will have a little review at the end of the day.”

With big guns like Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and AB de Villiers yet to join the squad, not all players who did well in the game will get an opportunity. But Harshal Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal may have booked a spot in the playing XI with their showing. Patidar too, may not be far from being selected.
