IPL 2020: Top 5 IPL records broken in this season so far

Indian Premier League 2020 has already completed a month and the tournament has witnessed some heart-thumping action, high octane clashes and mouthwatering player matchups. Not only that, this season’s edition has been privy to some new records being scripted and some old records getting broken.

KL Rahul’s record century

Kings XI Punjab skipper KL Rahul slammed his second IPL century and the first of the ongoing Dream11 Indian Premier League 2020 (IPL 2020) season against Royal Challengers Bangalore to score the highest by any IPL captain in an innings.

The 28-year-old batsman smashed 132* off just 69 balls as he plundered the likes of Dale Steyn, Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Saini, and Shivam Dube to all corners of the Dubai International Stadium. His breathtaking knock comprised of 14 fours and 7 sixes.

It is also the highest score by a wicket-keeper and by an Indian in the history of IPL.

132* by Rahul is the highest score by a keeper-captain in the T20 format. The previous highest was Ishan Kishan’s unbeaten 113 in the 2018-19 Syed Mushtaq Ai T20 tournament against Manipur.

Rahul is now only the third player after Virender Sehwag and David Warner to hit an IPL century both as captain and non-captain.

During the innings, the right-hander also became the fastest Indian (60 innings) to reach 2,000 IPL runs, overtaking the 8-year-old record set by former Mumbai captain and batting icon Sachin Tendulkar (63 innings).

Faf-Watson stitch record partnership for CSK

The opening pair of Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson stitched CSK’s highest partnership run against KXIP, breaking a nine-year-old record. CSK’s previous best was for the opening wicket, in 2011, by Mike Hussey and Murali Vijay when they scored 159 against RCB in Chennai. It is also the highest partnership against KXIP for any wicket and the fourth-highest opening partnership in IPL history.

In the process, Shane Watson and Faf Du Plessis recorded highest ever partnership for Chennai Super Kings in IPL history. It is also the ninth-highest stand in the IPL for any wicket.

Shikhar Dhawan’s historic consecutive tons

Delhi Capitals’ opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan on Tuesday became the first player to register consecutive centuries in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Dhawan achieved the feat as he brought up his century against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the ongoing IPL 2020. In the match against KXIP, Dhawan smashed 12 fours and 3 sixes to bring up his century off just 57 balls.

The century was second in a row by the 34-year-old as he smashed an unbeaten ton in his previous match as well, against Chennai Super Kings and notably it was Dhawan’s maiden IPL century.

Mohammed Siraj’s historic back-to-back maiden overs

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pacer Mohammed Siraj on Wednesday created history as he became the first bowler to bowl two maiden overs in an IPL match.
The 26-year-old achieved the feat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Siraj was seen at his best as his first two overs conceded no runs and he also ended up taking the wickets of Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Rana. Overall, his bowling figures were 4-2-8-3.

KKR post lowest 20-Over total in IPL history

KKR registered the lowest 20-over total in IPL history as they were hammered by 8 wickets by Virat Kohli’s RCB in IPL 2020 on Wednesday. It was a dreadful batting performance from Eoin Morgan’s men as they were restricted on a paltry 84/8 in 20 overs.

The previous lowest total in the IPL by a team that played out 20 overs was Kings XI Punjab’s 92/8 against Chennai Super Kings in 2009.
