IPL 2020 Schedule : BCCI president Sourav Ganguly says, ‘I hope IPL 2020 will be conducted well’

The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is worried about the fate of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020). Unlike some of the BCCI members who are currently in Dubai, Ganguly is still at his home in Kolkata but Dada is keeping tab on the developments in UAE.

During a shoot in Kolkata, Ganguly said he is praying that all goes well for IPL 2020 in UAE. Reacting for the first time ever since the news of multiple Chennai Super Kings squad members including two cricketers testing positive for Covid-19 broke out, Ganguly said he just hopes that everything goes well for the league in UAE.
“I cannot comment on the situation of CSK. We will see if they can start as per schedule. I hope the IPL will be conducted well. We have a long schedule for the tournament and I sincerely hope everything will go on just fine,” Sourav Ganguly told the Kolkata Times.

Ganguly, who was shooting for a commercial film at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, however, said people will have to accept the new reality.

“The entire world is coping with the crisis. Football and cricket matches are being conducted to empty stadiums globally. We will also have to accept that reality. “I have started working and do our work. I am not a full-fledged sportsperson anymore – I am half-and-half. I am balancing between family, cricket, BCCI and media work,” he said.

IPL 2020 Schedule : Schedule still awaited, Chennai Super Kings unlikely to feature in the opening game of the season

Things were going as per plans before Friday night when it was confirmed that an India pacer who is a member of the CSK squad and a few other members of the team had tested positive. Along with more than dozen Covid-19 positives in the team, CSK has also lost the services of their crisis man & the vice captain Suresh Raina. Raina as declared by CSK will not be available for complete season of IPL 2020 because of personal reasons and has already returned to India.

Due to these unfortunate developments, MS Dhoni led CSK is unlikely to feature in the opening game of IPL 2020. It is worth noting that, CSK was scheduled to play Mumbai Indians in the opening game of the 13th edition of IPL 2020.

It was being speculated not only by the media but also confirmed by the IPL players themselves that the opening game of the IPL 2020 will be contested by two of the most successful teams in IPL i.e 4 times champions Mumbai Indians & 3 time winner Chennai Super Kings. Captain of the Mumbai team Rohit Sharma himself had confirmed the news via his twitter update.

But now according to the sources, BCCI has decided to change the schedule to give CSK more time to recoup from the ongoing crisis in their camp.

CSK which is now under complete quarantine for the next 6 days can’t resume practice till all of the players test negative after completion of the quarantine period. This means even if all goes well, CSK can resume practice only by the middle of the next week.

Not only this, CSK players who have tested positive will be in quarantine for next two weeks. Over and above this, some of the CSK squad members are playing in CPL 2020 and can only join the team after completion of 6 day quarantine in Dubai on either 17th-18th August.

This is the reason, BCCI will now not feature CSK in the opening game of the IPL 2020 and rather Mumbai Indians will face some other team.

’They will now not be in a position to contest the opening game of the IPL 2020. We will give CSK few more days to come out of this setback’, said one of the BCCI official to InsideSport.
