Rahul took 60 innings to achieve the milestone, which is three less than former Mumbai Indians’ star Tendulkar who took 63 innings to reach the 2000 run-mark in the tournament.
Rahul reached the landmark against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Dubai on Thursday.
Interestingly, Rahul’s teammate Chris Gayle holds the record for the fastest batsman to 2000 runs. He reached the mark in his 48th inning in IPL.
Also, Rahul is the 20th Indian and overall 32nd cricketer to score more than 2000 runs in the IPL. The 28-year-old has so far scored 2011* runs in 69 matches at an average of 42.02 and a strike rate of over 137.
The stylish batsman, ever since joining the Punjab franchise in 2018, has been in sublime form. In the previous two seasons alone, Rahul has scored 1252 runs in 28 matches he has played.
He had a superb 2019 season, where he even got his maiden IPL ton and finished the season with an impressive average of 53.90.
