IPL 2020: One for the team! Suryakumar Yadav selflessly sacrifices his wicket for Rohit Sharma; See video

SuryaKumar Yadav displayed an ultimate act of selflessness in the summit clash of the 2020 IPL against the Delhi Capitals as he sacrificed his wicket following a horrible mix-up between him and his skipper Rohit Sharma.

Chasing 157, Mumbai’s openers never looked in doubt and were always on top of the chase. The incident happened on the 5th ball of the 11th over when Rohit Sharma, after having punched Ravichandran Ashwin off the backfoot took off for a non-existent single.

Rohit stroked a length ball off the backfoot to mid-off and set off for a run, but Suryakumar did not respond and was caught ball-watching. However, just as Praveen Dubey picked up the ball and rifled the throw to Rishabh Pant, Surya jogged a few steps towards the striker’s end to save his skipper’s wicket.

Surya without showing any hint of emotion on his face walked back to the pavilion as he was dismissed in a very unfortunate way, the dismissal ended Suryakumar Yadav’s 2020 IPL campaign as he finished with 480 runs at an average of 40 which includes four valuable fifties.

Eventually, Sharma scored 68 runs off 51 deliveries before perishing to Anrich Nortje in the 17th over. But the job was done by then as MI required only 20 more runs at less than six runs per over after the Indians’ skipper’s departure.
