AB de Villiers achieved another milestone in his career. The South African became the 6th batsman in the Indian Premier League history to score 4500 runs. He is now only the 2nd overseas player after David Warner to have scored 4500 or more runs in the IPL. De Villiers achieved the feat during the IPL 2020 clash between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The feat saw ‘Mr 360’ join an elite list headed by Virat Kohli and includes the likes of Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Warner and Shikhar Dhawan in that order.
This is AB de Villiers’ 13th season in the IPL now and he has hit 4529 runs in 157 matches. He has been an integral part of the RCB franchise for the better part of the last 9 years. De Villiers was in his elements against MI on Monday as he scored an unbeaten 55 runs off just 24 balls and his innings consisted of 4 fours and 4 sixes.
De Villiers had started his IPL career in 2008 when he turned out for the Delhi Daredevils. After playing with the Daredevils for 3 years, de Villiers joined RCB in 2011. He has been an important part of the team since then and time and again proved himself to be a match-winner.
Meanwhile, RCB opener Devdutt Padikkal was also in form as he scored a half-century, while, all-rounder Shivam Dubey thrashed 21 off 9 balls towards the end of the innings to help RCB score 201/3 in the allotted 20 overs.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma-led MI won the toss and opted to bowl first.
