Ahead of the Indian Premier League season 13 (IPL 2020), MI vs CSK season opener, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Mahela Jayawardene addressed an online press conference.
Speaking about the absence of MI’s match-winning bowler and IPL’s highest wicket-taker Lasith Malinga in the setup, Rohit Sharma believes he has left behind a massive void.
Lasith Malinga is an irreplaceable cog both for Mumbai Indians and his national team (Sri Lanka). It is not easy to replace him, Malinga has won us matches in the most toughest situations. It is unfortunate to not have him here in UAE.
“We have a good crop of bowlers in Coulter Nile, Trent Boult, Dhawal Kulkarni, and Jaspirt Bumrah who are expected to deliver similar performance.”
With 170 scalps, he is the highest wicket-taker in the IPL, and his experience and acumen have been instrumental in Mumbai Indians crossing the line on numerous occasions in the past.
A testament of that is when he defended eight runs in the last over of the 2019 IPL final against Chennai Super Kings, to help Mumbai register their fourth title triumph.
