Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who made his debut for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2020 on Saturday, deceived Sunrisers Hyderabad opener David Warner during the match no.8 of Indian Premier League 2020.
After opting to bat first, Warner provided a good start to SRH and he was looking in top form, but then Varun Chakravarthy happened.
In the 10th over of SRH innings, Varun took Warner by surprise with a change in pace. The spinner’s turning delivery was misread by the Australian batsman as the ball caught the blade of the opener’s bat and bounced straight back to the bowler for an easy caught and bowled.
Warner (36) was left baffled by his own dismissal.

Interestingly, it was only the second IPL wicket for Varun. The mystery spinner, who has been often termed as ‘Indian Narine’, was first purchased for 8.4 crores by Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2019. However, the 29-year-old had a forgettable debut for the KXIP, conceding 35 runs and picking a wicket in the only match that he played for the franchise.
Later, Kings XI released Chakravarthy ahead of the IPL auction that held in December 2019 and he was bought by KKR for Rs 4 crore.
Meanwhile, SRH, riding on Manish Pandey’s half-century, set a modest 143-runs target for KKR. Both the teams are looking for first points in IPL 2020 after losing their opener.
