In Dream11 IPL 2020, Nicholas Pooran smashed a 28-ball 53 as Kings XI Punjab defeated Delhi Capitals by five wickets in an Indian Premier League game here on Tuesday.

Pooran hit three sixes and six boundaries in his knock as KXIP scored 167 for five in 19 overs to notch up their third successive win in the tournament.

Earlier, opener Shikhar Dhawan blasted a second successive unbeaten hundred but KXIP pulled things back in the death overs to restrict Delhi Capitals to a below-par 164 for five.

Dhawan, who had scored an unbeaten 101 off 58 against Chennai Super Kings in their last match, clobbered 12 fours and three sixes in his 61-ball 106-run knock to become the first batsmen to score back-to-back centuries in IPL.

On way to his innings, Dhawan also became the fourth Indian batsman to cross 5000 runs in IPL.

Brief Scores:

Delhi Capitals: 164 for 5 in 20 overs (Shikhar Dhawan 106; Mohammed Shami 2/28).

Kings XI Punjab: 167 for 5 in 19 overs (Nicholas Pooran 53; Kagiso Rabada 2/27).

IPL 2020 KXIP vs DC Live Commentary

KXIP wins by 5 wickets

Neesham finishes things off in style with a massive sixer to keep KXIP’s playoffs hopes alive. An important victory for Punjab as they chase down the 165-run target with an over to spare.

Hooda dropped by Stoinis

Hooda gave a skier when only 5 runs were needed but Stoinis could not hold on to it. It was difficult but it needed to be hold on to make it interesting.

Excellent time to get a boundary. Just a tad short from Axar Patel and Hooda uses his long reach to go back and put it over the short mid-wicket fielder for a four, that eases all the pressure and surely KXIP should look to finish it in the next over itself. KXIP-157/5 after 18 overs; need more 8 from 12 balls

150 up for KXIP!

Do Hooda and Neesham have what it takes? They’ll have to face Ashwin. Good, tight bowling from the veteran. He’s unable to get another wicket in his fourth and final over, but he just concedes three runs. KXIP-151/5 after 17 overs; need more 14 from 18 balls

KXIP-148/5 after 16 overs; need more 17 from 24 balls

Maxwell gone; KXIP in trouble

One too many shots from Glenn Maxwell, he hits this one high, high into the air and a sprinting Rishabh Pant chases it down and catches it with a diving effort! FOW-147/5

Strategic Timeout taken

Just 3 runs had come from five balls and was going to be just the over DC needed but Maxwell had other ideas. He drives it past the mid off fielder to collect a boundary. KXIP-137/4 after 14 overs; need more 28 from 36 balls

KXIP-130/4 after 13 overs; need more 35 from 42 balls

Pooran departs on 53

Nicholas Pooran got to his fifty off just 27 balls but Rabada got him in the very next ball. Pooran was cramped for room, Rabada bowled it close to his body. Pooran tried his best to take his hands away but ended up gloving it to the keeper. FOW-125/4

FIFTY for Pooran!

KXIP-120/3 after 12 overs; need more 45 from 48 balls

Pooran continues onslaught!

It’s not easy to hit Axar Patel for six, he has only conceded two in IPL 2020 but make that three now. Nicholas Pooran just smoked it out of the middle of the bat, there’s no stopping him now. KXIP-112/3 after 11 overs; need more 53 from 54 balls

Expensive over from Stoinis
We reach the halfway mark

Boundary on the second ball by Pooran. He slams the next one for a massive sixer. Finishes with a wide and a single- 14 runs off it. KXIP-101/3 after 10 overs; need more 64 from 60 balls

4,4,6; Deshpande taken to the cleaners

Strategic Timeout taken

Tushar Deshpande is not having a great day in the field and this time an inside edge from Nicholas Pooran beats Rishabh Pant and races for a boundary. The Windies batsman scores two FOURS and one SIX in his previous over as the bowler has already conceded 41 runs in just two overs. KXIP-87/3 after 9 overs; need more 78 from 66 balls

Ashwin’s back. He starts off by giving away a boundary, Pooran hammers it into deep cover. No more boundaries in the over, but there are a couple of costly mistakes in the fielding. KXIP-72/3 after 8 overs; need more 93 from 72 balls

Glenn Maxwell is out to bat and KXIP would be hoping him to deliver this time around.  Rabada bowls. He’s quite stingy in the next few balls though, with a double and a couple of singles the only runs given away. Five runs off the over. KXIP-62/3 after 7 overs; need more 103 from 78 balls

End of Powerplay!

KXIP-57/3 after 6 overs

Horrible mix-up;Mayank Agarwal run out

Mayank Agarwal has to walk back after a mix-up with Pooran. There was no run there but Pooran just took off after defending the ball. Agarwal at first stood his ground for then decided to answer his partner’s call but by then it was too late. FOW-57/3

Big wicket for DC!

That’s the fifth time Ashwin has got rid of Chris Gayle and what a time to get it. Gayle was batting on 29 off 12 balls when he went for a heave too many and Ashwin hits bulls eye. Huge wicket for DC. FOW- 52/2

50 comes up for KXIP

The bowler is taken to the cleaners by Chris Gayle. 4, 4, 6, 4, 6! Deshpande also bowls a wide. This is the worst over by a DC bowler in this. KXIP-50/1 after 5 overs; need more 115 from 90 balls

Despite losing KL Rahul early, Mayank Agarwal and Chris Gayle are keeping the scorers busy as the pair deal in singles. After the end of four overs. KXIP-24/1 after 4 overs; need more 141 from 96 balls

Axar Patel comes into the bowling attack, and he’s hit for four on his very first ball but is dismissed next. Big wicket for DC, and it’s come very early. Rahul departs, and it’s the turn of the Universe Boss, Chris Gayle himself to take a crack at DC’s bowling. No fireworks from the get-go though, just a single off the next four balls. DC-19/1 after 3 overs; need more 146 more from 17 overs

KL Rahul gone cheaply!

KL Rahul plays an early shot on a slower one from Axar Patel and he has hit it straight to Daniel Sams inside the circle. Axar held the delivery a tad bit, outwitted Rahul, and he mistimed his shot. FOW-17/1

Fantastic over from Kagiso Radada, keeping it tight, not allowing Rahul or Mayank to settle down. 2 overs gone. DC-13/- after 2 overs

Daniel Sams takes the new ball, His first couple of balls are promising, but then gives away a needless free-hit. He’s punished for it, KL Rahul hammers it high over long-off, that one was huge! Just one more single in the over, 8 off it. KXIP-8/0 after 1 over; need more 157 from 19 overs

We are underway with KXIP’s chase

Rahul-Agarwal opens battings for KXIP; Debutant Sams to open bowling for DC.

End of DC’s innings

164/5 after 20 overs

DC-157/4 after 19 overs

Arshdeep into the attack. After a single Dhawan does well to collect two runs after pushing the ball straight down the ground. In the next ball, he gets his century! For the first time in the history of IPL, a batsman scores back-to-back centuries.

Another century from Dhawan! Batting masterclass from the DC opener

Shikhar Dhawan creates history becomes the first player in IPL to slam back-to-back centuries in the tournament. What a moment for the left-hander. He gets to the milestone off 57 balls.

DC-145/4 after 18 overs

Stoinis gone for 9

Low full toss from Shami. Stoinis gets a bottom edge, the ball goes high and the catch is taken near the pitch.

Shikhar Dhawan moves into the 90s. He has three more overs to score his second consecutive century. What an achievement that would be. Bowlers are clueless on how to take his wicket. 13 runs from Murugan Ashwin’s over. He’s done with his quota today. Four overs, 33 runs for one wicket. DC-139/3 after 17 overs

Ashwin back into attack

A mistimed hit from Dhawan, the ball is high in the air but falls in no man’s land between mid-on and long-on. Nine off the over. Four more remaining in this innings. DC-126/3 after 16 overs

Murugan Ashwin to Dhawan. Single on the first ball. Googly to Stoinis in the next ball but the batsman reads it and pushes for a single. The leg-spinner does well after conceding the boundary. A single, a dot and a double from the last three deliveries.  DC-117/3 after 15 overs

Maxwell bowled out. Maxwell’s template today has been quick deliveries targetting the stumps and it worked for him. Pant gets frustrated and goes for the big hit but it results in his dismissal. Marcus Stoinis is the new batsman. DC-108/3 after 14 overs

Pant falls for 14

Pant tries to clear the long-on fielder and fails. Simple catch in the end.

100 comes up for DC

Bishnoi starts off with a googly to Dhawan. The left-hander goes for the big shot but misses it. No problem in the third ball, this time, Dhawan executes his slog sweep to perfection for a six. Two dots against Pant and that’s the end of the over. Strategic Timeout taken DC-103/2 after 13 overs

Maxwell gets another over. Not offering any width to both the batsmen so no big shots. Four singles followed by a dot. Pant tries the big hit off the final but no proper connection. Good over from Maxwell.  DC-94/2 after 12 overs

Ravi Bishnoi comes back well after conceding the four off the first ball. Pant doesn’t read his googly in the third ball and falls over. Three singles from the last three balls. DC-90/2 after 11 overs

We reach the halfway mark!

Maxwellhanded the ball for his second over of the night. Decent one but one bad ball and Dhawan makes sure he collects a boundary. Apart from the boundary, four singles from the over. DC-83/2 after 10 overs

Eventful over!

Shikhar Dhawan scores his fourth half-century on a trot. Today, there will be talks about his strike rate because he has been hitting it all over the park and reached the landmark in just 28 balls. A good over from Murugan Ashwin as he removes skipper Shreyas and gives away just six runs. Rishabh Pant joins Dhawan in the middle. DC-74/2 after 9 overs

Fifty for Dhawan

DC lose skipper Iyer

Good catch from Rahul behind the stumps. Ashwin bowls down the leg as Shreyas gets an edge and the catch is taken by the keeper.

Neesham to Shreyas. The first ball is on the legs, Shreyas flicks it for a single. Dhawan comes down the track in the second ball and pushes it to deep point for one more run. Shreyas gets an edge in the next ball, but too tough for keeper Rahul and it’s a single. A double followed by a four and a single to end the over. DC-68/1 after 8 overs

Tight start from Ashwin

A real good start by leg-spinner Murugan Ashwin. Tight lines, and good lengths – all that you ask from your spinner when he starts a spell, only 5 runs from the over DC-58/1 after 7 overs

End of Powerplay; 50 comes up for DC

The ball is nicely coming to bat and Dhawan is taking the advantage. Just one boundary from this over, so that’s a decent one from Arshdeep. Nine off the over. Strategic Timeout taken. DC-53/1 after 6 overs

Three fours in four balls off Mohammed Shami, Shikhar Dhawan is in top form. He is setting himself up early and just toying with the field. Shame bowled it full, bowled it short and the result was the same on both occasions. DC-44/1 after 5 overs

Skipper Shreyas Iyer is the new batsman and he gets off the mark with a terrific six over deep extra cover. That’s timing plus confidence. DC-32/1 after 4 overs

Iyer starts with a six!

A fuller length delivery outside off from Neesham, Iyer gets a stride in and just hits it over covers for a six, yes as simple as that.

Shaw departs cheaply

The batsman takes on Jimmy Neesham but no timing on his attacking shot. The ball goes high and Maxwell takes the catch at cover.

Arshdeep to Shaw. Shaw showing good intent but he should also know where the fielders are present. Dhawan’s confidence is high and it shows in that boundary. Nine off the over. DC-25/0 after 3 overs

Shami makes an expensive start

Maxwell to Shaw. He’s off the mark with a single on the leg-side. After the boundary in the second ball, Dhawan comes up with a cover-drive and collects two runs. A brilliant hit for a six and almost caught and bowled in the final ball. So an eventful first over. 13 off it. DC-16/0 after 2 overs

Good start from KXIP

Maxwell to Shaw. He’s off the mark with a single on the leg-side. After the boundary in the second ball, Dhawan comes up with a cover-drive and collects two runs. A brilliant hit for a six and almost caught and bowled in the final ball. So an eventful first over. 13 off it. DC-13/0 after 1 over

Dhawan gets the first maximum of the day

Dhawan is in form and he shows with that shot. Outside off stump but Dhawan sends the ball over deep mid-wicket for a maximum

Will DC rotate Rabada and Nortje

The heat in the UAE and the pressure of leading an IPL attack can take a toll on out and out fast bowlers like Rabada and Nortje. And DC have players like Harshal Patel and Tushar Deshpande who can actually do a decent job with the ball.

Toss to be held in another half an hour.
