IPL 2020: Delhi Capitals connects with fans back home: young, old and four-legged!

After crossing several hurdles, the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League got underway in a very unusual manner. This is the first edition sans fans in the stadium and the valid reason behind it is the strict health guidelines of the bio-secure bubble. However, JSW and GMR co-owned franchise Delhi Capitals is leaving no stone unturned to engage with their fans back in Delhi.

Even before the start of the tournament, with an objective to keep their fans and players connected, the franchise launched a slew of virtual fan engagement initiatives on their official social media handles. After getting a great response from Indian as well as overseas fans for their various initiatives such as ‘DC Watch Parties’ and ‘DC Reporters’, Delhi Capitals official fan club- DC Toli launched a special segment called DC Cubs & Mums, for their little fans as well.

The segment kick started with DC Kalakaar – a virtual banner party for children from the age group of 8-15. Many young fans and their families extended their support to the team by drawing and painting posters, and officially enrolling as DC Cubs members. The event also included interesting quizzes and fan cheers to engage the kids. They were also taught to dance to the official anthem of Delhi Capitals. All the participants were given certificates and DC merchandise made specially for them including stickers and t-shirts.

Another addition to the list of initiatives is an association with the Kvaab Welfare Foundation, an NGO which feeds over 200 dogs every day. DC Toli, with the Kvaab Foundation fed over 250 stray dogs, 17 cats and 30 monkeys in various parts of the city like Jawaharlal Nehru Metro station, Sanchar Bhawan, Dak Bhawan, Air India office, International Yoga centre, Baird Lane and around the streets of Central Delhi.

Moreover, continuing the cycle rides from last year, the franchise has seen the same kind of support rides this year as well by the Delhi Cyclists’ community. Cyclist groups- Delhi Cyclists and Biking Buddies were seen peddling across the city donning the Blue DC Toli T-shirts in support of the team. Over 30 cyclists of Delhi covered over 50 kms during a special ride while following COVID guidelines.
