DC vs KKR IPL 2020 LIVE: Delhi Capitals climbs to top after beating KKR by 18 runs in Sharjah run-fest

Shreyas Iyer (88*) and Prithvi Shaw (66) powered Delhi Capitals to IPL 2020’s highest first innings totals (228/4 after 20 overs) as their bowlers denied Morgan and Tripathi’s late fireworks to seal a 18 runs victory in Sharjah’s run fest and reclaim the No.1 spot in the IPL 2020 points table.

Delhi Capitals vs Kolkata Knight Riders

That’s it from us here. Thank you for joining us. See you again tomorrow!

Shreyas Iyer awarded the Man of the Match for his unbeaten 88*

DC wins by 18 runs

That’s it! Marcus Stoinis holds his nerve to bowl a very good last over. KKR finish with 210/8, Delhi Capitals win by 18 runs. Another high-scoring match at Sharjah.

This time Marcus Stoinis is on the money with his line and length. Yorker pings the middle stump and that’s Rahul Tripathi gone! He’s not happy with that shot but Delhi camp is pleased, most of all Prithvi Shaw. That’s much more like it from Stoinis!

Marcus Stoinis in to defend the 26 runs and he starts off with a full toss outside off and Rahul Tripathi connects well enough for a boundary. KKR need 22 from 5 balls

End of 19 overs; KKE need 26 from 6 balls

A much better over by Anrich Nortje to calm the Delhi Capitals camp and fans. Not only does he go for just five runs, he’s also gotten rid of Eoin Morgan and the requirement is a huge 26 runs from last 6 balls. But Rahul Tripathi still in the middle. KKR-203/7

Eoin Morgan gets the pull but not the distance on it and is found on the boundary. Not enough room in the end for a comfortable enough hit. Hetmyer is a safe pair of hands on the boundary rope. But what an inning from Morgan, when all looked lost.

KKR-198/6 after 18 overs; need 31 runs from 12 balls

Morgan hits three back to back sixes off Rabada. KKR-194/6 after 18.4 overs

Rahul Tripathi goes beserk. 24 runs off the overs KKR-175/6 after 17 overs; need 54 off 18 balls

Kagiso Rabada goes for a touch too much in that over and Eoin Morgan makes him pay for his overzealous attempts. Converts two attempted yorkers into full tosses and smacks it for a four and six. KKR-151/6 after 16 overs; need 78 runs from 24 balls

KKR-137/6 after 15 overs; need 92 from 30 balls

6th wicket down for KKR

Wickets falling thick and fast for KKR now. Harshal Patel turns the catch taker as Pat Cummins falls. Anrich Nortje is pumped! He’s been fantastic tonight. FOW-128/6

Back to back wickets! 2 in 2 for Harshal Patel. He’s on a hat-trick. Karthik miscues an easy catch to mid off. He is out for 6. Pat Cummins is in at 7 to face the hat-trick ball

Nitish Rana had the momentum but Harshal Patel mixed it up with a slower one. Rana was well into his pull but it has only been found by substitute Axar Patel who takes it with ease.

Fifty for Nitish Rana

An excellent half century from Nitish Rana under pressure. KKR-108/3 after 12 overs; need 121 from 48 balls

100 comes up for KKR

KKR-100/3 after 11 overs; need 129 more 54 balls

KKR need 135 runs from 60 balls

Russell seemed to have the early laugh with a four and a six but it is Rabada who has the last laugh with the wicket. And what a mighty important wicket too. 10 runs from the over but Delhi have the crucial wicket in the bag. KKR-94/3 after 10 overs

Big loss for KKR

Andre Russell looked to get going. Another of his typical knocks but it has been stopped short by Kagiso Rabada with the ball and Nortje in the field. Goes for another big hit but this time he miscues it. Nortje with a very well taken catch coming in from third man boundary.

KKR-84/2 after 9 overs

2nd wicket down for KKR

Shubman Gill goes for a massive hit but gets the top-edge. Doesn’t go far as Pant catches it calmly. End of the 64-run stand.

KKR-72/1 after 8 overs

Ashwin brought back from the other end following Mishra’s success. Looks to fire it in at the stumps. Not as effective as Mishra, but pretty tight. A four by Rana to end the over.

Excellent start from Amit Mishra

Amit Mishra into the attack for Delhi. An economical start nonetheless. Just the two runs from that over. KKR-61/1 after 7 overs

Nitish Rana dropped

Amit Mishra into the attack and Nitish Rana nearly falls. Tried to play it into the leg side but the slider comes back to him. Moves to his right but lets the ball out of his grasp

End of Powerplay!

Harshal Patel is the newest bowling introduction by Delhi Capitals. And he goes for 12 runs to finish the Powerplay overs. Nitish Rana with a couple of boundaries from that over and that’s not a bad powerplay for KKR after that early Narine wicket. KKR-59/1 after 6 overs

KKR-47/1 after 5 overs

Marcus Stoinis comes into bowl now. Another bowling change for DC. Flow of boundaries continues into yet another over. Gill is playing well and is very confident with his pull shots. Beats the outside edge of Nitish Rana to finish. Nine runs from the over

Another double digit over for KKR and Shubman Gill gets into the act now. He goes after Nortje and picks a four and a six for 12 runs from the over. Nortje doing well to mix up the pace there – all too important when you’re bowling in such conditions . KKR-39/1 after 4 overs

Rana finishes the 4th over in style, slams another maximum off the last ball over long on. An expensive over from Ashwin to start of the things. 15 runs from it. KKR-27/1  after 3 overs

Ashwin back for DC after initial hiatus

Ashwin is back after missing out on a couple of games and gets an unwanted welcome from Nitish Rana. A six off Rana’s willow – over the deep square leg and the ball lands into the stands.

Anrich Nortje with an absolute peach of an over. He started with a zipper of a delivery that beat everyone. The next delivery clipped the top of leg stump for Sunil Narine’s wicket. Narine now: 9, 0, 15, 3 at the start of this IPL. KKR might have to reconsider his place in the XI. A fiery over from Nortje gets eight runs for KKR but a wicket for DC. KKR-12/1 after 12 balls

KKR lose Narine cheaply for 8

Nortje got the previous to zip up and bounce its way to boundary. This one is more measured and clips the top of the stumps. 147.6 kmph delivery and Narine falls for just 3 runs. Not the best of starts for him this IPL. FOW-8/1

Good start from DC

Rabada starts extremely well. Tight first over from the Porteas, only runs off it. KKR-4/0 after 1 over

We get underway with KKR’s chase

Here we go! Gill and Narine comes out to bat for KKR. Rabada to open bowling for DC

End of DC’s innings

A single from Shimron Hetmyer to end the innings but the damage was done already as the DC posted a total of 228/4 following the powerful knocks of Prithvi Shaw (66) and Shreyas Iyer (88). DC-228/4 after 20 overs; Kolkata Knight Riders need 229 runs to win

DC lose their 4th wicket

Slower ball from Russell down the leg side, Stoinis tries flicking this towards fine leg, but fails to clear the circle as Varun Chakravarthy times his jump perfectly to complete the catch. FOW-221/4

DC-221/3 after 19 overs
20 runs off the penultimate over

Varun Chakravarthy for the 19th over. Is bowling out his full quota ahead of Narine today. Iyer finds the gap on the leg side to start the over with a four. A six smashed over covers to follow.

200 up for DC

SIX, Four, Four – that’s how the DC scorecard looks when Pant went with all guns blazing against Andre Rusell in the 18th over. DC-201/3 after 18 overs

Pant dismissed for 38; DC 3 down

Russell finally gets rid of Pant, who looked like he could singlehandedly take Delhi to 250. The southpaw hammers an overpitched delivery down the ground, but doesn’t get the distance this time as Mavi collects an easy catch at long on.

Iyer smashes Cummins for a six and back-to-back fours in his final over as Cummins signs off wicketless, having conceded 49 from his quota including 17 off his last. DC-186/2 after 17 overs

DC-169/2 after 16 overs

Mavi bowls the most expensive over of the innings so far as he concedes four boundaries off his third, three of which are collected by Pant, as 18 are added to the DC total in this over. A rare misfield by Cummins at long on allows Iyer to bring up his 14th IPL fifty. DC will be eyeing 230-240 the way they’re motoring along right now.

50 for Iyer!

A misfield by Cummins at long on allows Shreyas Iyer to bring up his 14th IPL fifty off 26 balls! What a knock this has been from the Delhi Capitals captain today! DC 160/2

Pant joins Iyer after Shaw’s wicket. Pat Cummins back to bowl the 14th over. A good over from him, slightly destroyed by Iyer swinging for four through covers to end the over. 11 runs off the over. Nagarkoti bowls a third over. An excellent over from him. Only singles. DC-151/2 after 15 overs

Cummins, who has conceded 21 off two so far, brought back after the second timeout. Iyer and Pant manage to run 2s off each of the first two deliveries despite the short boundaries, following it up with three singles. Iyer ends the over with a boundary towards deep extra cover. DC-142/2 after 14 overs

DC-131/2 after 13 overs; 2nd Strategic Timeout taken

Nagarkoti fires a full toss first ball into his second over, getting hit over midwicket by Shaw for another maximum, but the pacer manages to get rid of his India U-19 teammate off the fourth delivery as a miscued slog results in an easy catch for Gill at long on. Pant joins Iyer at the crease now as the umpire signals timeout at the end of the over.

Shaw gone

Kamlesh Nagarkoti strikes to remove Prithvi Shaw who played a terrific knock against a potent KKR attack. Prithvi slammed the ball towards the leg-side but ended up getting caught by his U-19 World Cup team mate Shubman Gill. DC 2 down now.

Expensive from KKR!

KKR bring back Varun Chakravarthy to get another breakthrough. It doesn’t work. Shaw nicks one past the keeper for four. Iyer provides a strong finish to the over. A straight six and a four to end the over. 16 runs from the over.

DC-121/1 after 12 overs

100 comes up for Delhi Capitals

DC-105/1 after 11 overs

Fifty for Prithvi Shaw

And he gets it with a sixer! Fine way for Prithvi Shaw to bring up his sixth IPL half-century, taking 35 balls to get to the milestone! Nagarkoti bowls a slower length ball, and Shaw clears his front length to clobber this over long on! DC 97/1

Narine, who got clobbered in his firt, is back to bowl his second. Iyer swings for a six over midwicket, the captain’s first six of the night. Narine has now conceded 26 runs in his two overs. DC-89/1 after 10 overs

Russell bowls another excellent over. Just 3 runs from the over. 0/7 from his 2 overs now, it’s been sensational stuff from him given the circumstances.

DC-78/1 after 9 overs

Strategic Time out taken

Mavi returns to the attack as DK decides to give the spinners a breather for now. The pacer, who was the Player of the Match in the win over Rajasthan Royals, gets hit for a six and a four by Shaw and Iyer respectively as 14 are added to the DC total in this over DC-75/1 after 8 overs

Karthik switches back to seam after the powerplay as he brings Russell into the attack in place of Narine, who was hammered for 15 in the fifth. Decent start for the all-rounder as he gives away four singles, finishing the over with a well-aimed yorker. DC-61/1 after 7 overs

End of powerplay!

Shaw cuts hard through cover point off the first delivery to collect his third boundary, but the spinner gets the breakthrough later in the over as Dhawan miscues a slog to get caught at square leg for 26. The DC skipper joins Shaw at the crease. DC-57/1 after 6 overs

Dhawan departs for 26; DC lose 1st wicket

Dhawan goes for a big hit but the ball hits the top edge of the willow. Goes high in the air as Eoin Morgan takes an extremely calm and composed catch. FOW-56/1

50 comes up for DC
Fifty partnership for Shaw-Dhawan

A big partnership brewing between Dhawan and Shaw. Narine introduced as well in hope for a breakthrough but the duo looking extremely good out in the middle. DC-51/0 after 5 overs

DC-36/1 after 4 overs

Seven runs of Chakravarthy’s first over. Shaw collects a single off the first, and Dhawan’s beaten neck and crop by a beauty off the second. The Delhi southpaw gets a full delivery off the fifth that he promptly dispatches over extra cover to collect his second boundary.

Change in bowling

After the KKR pacers faced some heat from the DC openers, skipper Dinesh Karthik brings up Varun for a change. Let’s see what the spinner has got to deliver.

DC-29/0 after 3 overs

DC going strong! Shaw collects a four and a six off successive deliveries. 13 off Cummins’ second over.

Massive from Shaw!

Shaw’s clearly winning the battle against Cummins so far! Much better shot by Shaw after the miscue earlier, this one coming off the middle of the bat as the ball sails over deep midwicket. DC 28/0

DC-16/0 after 2 overs

Shivam Mavi bowls from the other end. Starts off with a boundary as Dhawan cuts the back-of-length delivery behind square, following it up with a single. Shaw returns for a brace after steering the ball through backward point off the third ball. The Mumbaikar taps the ball towards cover point for a quick single off the fourth. Back-to-back dots to end the over.

Good start from DC; DC-8/0 after 1 over

Cummins starts off with a short third man, a fly slip and a slip in place. Both Shaw and Dhawan get off the mark with a single off each of their first deliveries, Shaw decides to attack to get the first boundary of the innings.
