IPL 2020 CSK beat SRH: Is this the beginning of Chennai Super Kings’ comeback in IPL 13?

Defending a modest 168-runs target, CSK restricted SRH to 147/8 in the allotted 20 overs.
Interestingly this is Chennai’s just third victory in the tournament as they have lost five games out of eight so far and this victory was much needed to put their horrible campaign back on track.

Here we take a look at what went right for MS Dhoni’s side:

Surprisingly, CSK sent Sam Curran to open against SRH and it worked as the youngster gave a good start to his side by hitting 31 off 21 balls which included 3 fours and 2 sixes. Also, sending Curran to open provided depth in Chennai’s batting line-up as Shane Watson (42) came to bat at no.3 and he and Ambati Rayadu (41), who played as no.4 batsman, stitched an 81-runs partnership for the third wicket which proved to be crucial for the three-time IPL winners.

CSK’s bowlers were aware that they are defending a modest total and can’t afford to leak runs in the beginning itself. Hence, they started building pressure on Sunrisers’ batsmen from the very first ball and clinched wickets at regular intervals to keep the momentum on their side. Surprisingly, Chennai’s bowlers were much better in death overs when compared to their previous performances and it ultimately helped them keep SRH on backfoot throughout the game.

Biggest reason why CSK were able to defeat David Warner‘s side was that they played as a unit and every player of the team was aware of his role and looked determined. Even in the fielding department, the players looked much better and they didn’t allow SRH to take easy runs. Moreover, they didn’t drop a single catch and complemented bowlers with some good fielding efforts.

Now CSK will aim to continue this form and turnaround things as they are currently far away from making it to the playoffs of IPL 2020 with just six points in their kitty. Interestingly, Dhoni’s side has never failed to make it to the knockout round of IPL and to keep their record intact, the Dad’s Army will have to pull up their socks and replicate what they did against SRH.
