The 14-year-old Afghanistan boy Noor Ahmad is making headlines ahead of the Indian Premier League Auction and is well poised to enter InsideSport.co IPL Moneyball roaster as the youngest player ever.

Noor Ahmad will have to celebrate at least four birthdays to qualify for a driver’s license anywhere in the world. He is too young to appear in a professional competitive exam or apply for a job. Still a contract worth lakhs of rupees, and who knows worth a crore or more, awaits this Afghanistan teen in next few days.

If last year was about 16-year old Prayas Barman who became the youngest ever to feature in the Indian Premier League Auction, then the youngest ever to be picked by any franchisee and the youngest ever to feature in an IPL game for Royal Challengers Bangalore, the IPL 2020 Auction can make headlines for the 14-year-old Noor Ahmad from Afghanistan.

Noor Ahmad is among the seven Afghanistan cricketers who figure in the shortlisted 332 for the IPL 2020 Auctions in Kolkata on December 19. The IPL franchisees are certainly backing this prodigy as he has been able to find a place in the final pruned auction pool.

Rajasthan Royals had also called Noor Ahmad for a trial.

Noor Ahmad on the U19 Afghanistan team’s tour of India in November 2019 had been the second-highest wicket-taker in the five-match series with 9 scalps. Earlier in September 2019, during the ACC U19 Asia Cup, he had picked up 8 wickets in 3 matches at an average of just 7.50.

He has already earned a berth in the Afghanistan colts team for U19 Cricket World Cup 2020 in South Africa and then getting shortlisted for one of the best and richest cricket league in the world.

Noor Ahmad seems well poised to become the fourth Afghanistan cricketer to feature in an IPL squad after Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, and Mujeeb Zadran.

Like off-spinner Mujeeb Zadran, Noor hails from the Khost Province. He was first spotted by former Afghanistan captain and the national selector Raees Ahmadzai last year. “I saw him for the first time during U-19 trails. When I became the head coach of U-19, I picked him and he did very well. I was very impressed by his bowling,” Ahmadzai has said in a Press Release from Kabul on Friday.

Rashid and Mujeeb became a sensation at a young age in the cricketing world with their performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and just like them this Afghanistan teenager, Noor Ahmad is now set to grab the eyeballs in the upcoming auction of the cash-rich league.

With a mere ₹ 30 lakh as his base price, this minor cricketer can spark a bid was for a lucrative professional deal.
