The Board of Control for Cricket in India has confirmed the Indian Premier League 2019 at home from March 23. This lays to rest all speculation and threat of the league being staged – at least partially – at an overseas venue.

The decks now are cleared for all the league games in India. However, scheduling remains a tricky issue. The league will have to be finished well in time for the players to join their teams for the ICC World Cup 2019 preparations. As General Elections will take place during the league, the league games cannot be allowed to clash with the election dates in different dates.

Thus the scheduling and venue details cannot be finalised before the Election Commission of India announces the dates for the General Elections.

The BCCI, Insidesport.co has reliably learnt, is mulling the idea doing away with the practice of home and away matches at least till the elections are over. In such a scenario, a set of the league matches will be finished at one venue and then the entire caravan will move on to the next venue. However, daily security for the matches and sustaining the crowd interest for the games which do not involve the local team remains a major concern.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators had today (Tuesday) met in New Delhi to discuss the VIVO IPL 2019 venues and window. Based on the preliminary discussions with the appropriate Central and State agencies and authorities, it was decided that the 12th edition of the world’s most popular and competitive professional T20 tournament will be scheduled to be played in India, the BCCI has confirmed in a Press released.
