IPL10 auction on Feb 20, purse worth Rs 143 crore up for grabs

The auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be held on February 20. The decision was taken at a meeting of the BCCI during today.

A day before the auction, BCCI will hold a meeting of all the clubs to help them get familiar with the auction process. It will be followed by a meeting of all the clubs a day after the auction has been completed.

A maximum of 78 players, including 28 overseas from overseas, will be part of the auction pool.

Despite the change of dates for the auction, the BCCI had earlier confirmed that IPL 2017 will get underway on April 5. All the team together have Rs 143.33 crore in purse for the tenth season.

This auction will be the final time under the existing 10-year cycle that stared in 2008. Prior to this year’s auction, 140 cricketers, including 44 overseas cricketers were retained by their respective eight IPL clubs.  Before the auction gets under way, they had spent Rs 384.67 crore in buying the players.

The window for retention of players closed on December 15 and 7 teams except Kolkata Knight Riders have retained more than 20 players.

Kolkata’s iconic Eden Garden gets lucky as it gets to host both the inaugural and the final IPL match of 2017.
