Indian Super Cup: In a big development, referee Crystal John, who awarded a controversial goal to Bengaluru FC in the ISL Playoffs, will not be officiating in the upcoming Super Cup. The 35-year-old referee became the center of attention during the Indian Super League playoff tie between Bengaluru FC and Kerala Blasters when he awarded a goal to Bengaluru FC in extra time. The incident occurred when BFC skipper Sunil Chhetri was brought down by Kerala Blasters’ Vibin Mohanan near the edge of the box. As goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Gill began setting up his wall, Chhetri took a quick free kick and scored the goal. John awarded the goal, much to the surprise of the Blasters, who surrounded the match officials in protest.
The situation turned ugly when head coach Ivan Vukomanovic led his players into the dressing room in dissent at the decision. They did not enter the pitch after the goal, and ultimately Bengaluru FC was awarded the victory.
Now the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has taken action by deciding not to include John in the officiating team for the Hero Super Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Kerala from April 8.
According to journalist Marcus Mergulhao, Crystal John will not be a part of the tournament. This decision has led to mixed reactions from fans, with Kerala Blasters supporters taking to social media to express their views on the matter.
