India’s badminton queen PV Sindhu takes on in-form Ashmita Chaliha in what promises to be an exciting quarter-finals match of the Indian Open 2022. Chaliha produced a great upset by defeating fifth seed Evgeniya Kosetskaya of Russia before following it up with another convincing win over French shuttler Yaelle Hoyaux. The 22-year-old has not dropped a game in these two tough encounters.
PV Sindhu meanwhile started off her campaign with a 21-5, 21-16 drubbing of Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli before dispatching Ira Sharma 21-10, 21-10. While Chaliha remains an up and coming star, Sindhu will have to bring out her A-game and avoid another knockout exit.

Ashmita has clinched titles at the BWF International Challenge/Series level as well as won a gold medal at the South Asian Games. She played a close encounter with PV Sindhu in 2019, when the duo clashed in the National Championships semi-finals. Sindhu won that tie, clinching a hard-fought 21-10, 22-20.
PV Sindhu hasn’t won a title since her World Championship win in 2019, but the Indian badminton queen had a solid return to the court last year. Sindhu became the first Indian shuttler to win multiple Olympic medals after her bronze medal triumph in Tokyo last August. She also made it to four semi-finals in 2021 but failed to win a title in a highly consistent but frustrating year for the Indian.
