Hanuma Vihari fails to make impression –
Hanuma Vihari was deployed at No.3 in the first innings and fell victim to Roman Walker. If this was not enough, Vihari was once again at fault in the second innings as he was sent packing home by Will Davis on 20 off 55 deliveries.
In both innings, he looked unconvincing and only scored on odd loose balls. He faced problems particularly against pace and that will be something of an issue against England.
The team management and Rahul Dravid will now have to consider Vihari’s position in the team as Srikar Bharat made most of his opportunities. Head coach Rahul Dravid has options at his disposal and can opt to play both Rishabh Pant and Bharat in the team.
Srikar Bharat to play in the England Test match?
- As things stand, purely on form basis Srikar Bharat makes the Indian team against England with both Hanuma Vihari and Shreyas Iyer failing to seize their opportunities.
- Bharat scored an impressive 70 runs, while he was batting at No.7 in the team. His innings included eight fours and one six and was the highest scorer for the Indian team before they declared at 246/8.
- In the second innings, however, India opted to make changes as they deployed Bharat at the opener’s position.
- Bharat once again proved his worth will an excellent 43-run knock to send a message to the management.

Shreyas Iyer fails to deliver, Pant and Bharat to be in same team-
- Shreyas Iyer’s form will also be a huge concern for the Indian team as he departed for a duck in the first innings.
- While Shreyas still has an opportunity to convince the team management in the second innings, but Bharat will be a front runner for a place in the Playing XI.
- If that is the case, both Rishabh Pant and Bharat could be part of the Indian team and could feature in the solitary Test match starting on July 1.
- Bharat could bat at No.6 while Rishabh Pant can feature at No.5 and if this is the scenario then Pant will be donning the gloves with Bharat serving as outfield player.
