India continue their selection roulette as the selection committee named five spinners for the T20 squad against West Indies next month. Among the selected quintet, Ravichandran Ashwin makes a return to the T20I team for the first time this year. The veteran off-spinner last featured for India in the home series against New Zealand having made a surprise comeback to the T20 World Cup team.
Kuldeep Yadav also made a return subject to a fitness test. The Delhi Capitals star picked up 21 wickets in IPL 2022 and bagged four player of the match awards. Yadav was named in the South Africa squad but an injury ruled him out of the five-match series. Now having completed his rehabilitation, the chinaman bowler is back in contention.

The two experienced spinners’ return comes alongside Ravi Bishnoi’s presence in the team. The young wrist spinner has served as an understudy to Yuzvendra Chahal ever since making his debut earlier this year. Bishnoi had a mixed IPL season and his performance in the recent games for India has also been far from satisfactory.
The trio are named in the squad alongside two spinning all-rounders with Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel retaining their places in the team. The left-arm spin duo make it five spin options for India in the squad, in a questionable decision. The surprising bit is that Yuzvendra Chahal, who is the front runner for a place in the T20 World Cup squad, misses out on the action.
