India Tour of Sri Lanka – Sri Lanka Team vs India: The 3 suspended Sri Lankan cricketers returned home from England on Tuesday evening. Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilaka, and Niroshan Dickwella were suspended by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) as they breached quarantine regulations in England. SLC has also announced that all 3 will not be included in the team for 3 match T20 & 3 game ODI series against India.
According to the reports in Sri Lankan papers, a minimum one-year ban and hefty fines are likely to be levied on them depending on the outcome of their inquiries. After arrival, all three players were sent on their 14-day quarantine to the Club Hotel Dolphin – Negombo. On completion of the quarantine regulations, they will then have to face an inquiry into the incident that took place in Durham on Sunday.
“Obviously there is no chance that they will be considered for the series against India”, confirmed the SLC official to InsideSport.
“They are likely to get a minimum one-year suspension if found guilty of several breaches of their contract,” one official told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The trio was recalled from the Sri Lankan team after they had breached the bio-bubble while in Durham for the first ODI against England that took place yesterday.
Video footage published on social media showed the Lankan cricketers Dickwella and Mendis roaming the streets of Durham. The footage angered many cricket fans who took to social media to criticise the behaviour of the cricketers at a time when they had lost all three T20Is to England.
SLC called for a report from the team manager to verify the authenticity of the video, following which they suspended the players until the inquiry and asked them to return home immediately.
Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa has tweeted that SLC must take strict action against the players who violate the rules.
“Opportunity and time can be invested into youngsters to represent the country, in an attempt to revive #Srilanka cricket. However, playing with a lack of intent and poor discipline should not be tolerated. SLC must take strict action against players who violate these rules,” the Sports Minister tweeted.
India Tour of Sri Lanka – Indian team under Shikhar Dhawan meanwhile is already in Sri Lanka serving their quarantine period. Before leaving for Colombo, captain Shikhar Dhawan had declared, ‘SL series great opportunity to showcase talent’- India captain for the limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka, Shikhar Dhawan on Sunday termed the upcoming series as a challenge and said the matches in the island nation will provide the fringe players an opportunity to showcase their talent and be in the reckoning for a place in the main team.
“This is a very good team. There is positivity, confidence in our team and everybody is confident that we will do well. There is lot of excitement,” Dhawan said at the virtual pre-departure press-conference in the presence of head coach Rahul Dravid.
