India Tour of Sri Lanka: BCCI relaxes fitness benchmark- In a major development, BCCI has decided to relax fitness benchmarking and testing standards for Shikhar Dhawan’s team for the tour of Sri Lanka. The news will come as a huge relief for players like Varun Chakaravarthy who earlier have missed out on tours due to strict fitness benchmarking and guidelines by BCCI.
The BCCI won’t insist on fitness tests for the players, as per a report from Cricbuzz. The relaxation of the Yo-Yo Test and 2 km run comes in view of the pandemic situation and continued lockdown in the country.
Notably, Varun Chakravarthy had twice failed to clear fitness test during England tour of India after he was named in the T20Is.

With India’s both limited-overs spinners — Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav — struggling, India team management is keen to give Varun Chakravarthy a chance ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup. The matches against Sri Lanka will be crucial for him to impress the selectors.
Virat Kohli had hit out directly at Varun Chakravarthy following his multiple failures in fitness tests.
“Individuals have to understand and appreciate the kind of system that’s been created for the Indian cricket team,” said Virat Kohli.
“We should operate at very high levels of fitness and skills,” he added.
