India tour of England: Sunil Gavaskar expects Rohit Sharma to repeat 2019 WC heroics in Test series against England- Cricket Legend Sunil Gavaskar feels Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma could play a big role for India in the build-up to the 5-match Test series against England. He expects Rohit Sharma to repeat his World Cup 2019 heroics where he had slammed 5 tons in England. He feels Rohit Sharma can repeat the feat in red-ball cricket.

Cricketer-turned-commentator Gavaskar said that there would be no surprise if Rohit Sharma comes out on top against England.

“We saw Rohit Sharma score five incredible hundreds in the World Cup in England two years back,” he had told PTI.

“The century he got against South Africa was on a tough pitch and cold conditions and he made the adjustments beautifully. Now two years later he is even more experienced so don’t be surprised if he repeats that performance in this series too,” he added.

Notably, Rohit Sharma had slammed 648 runs in 9 matches during the ICC World Cup 2019. He had slammed centuries against South Africa, Pakistan, England, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.

Recently, he had contributed 34 and 30 runs in the WTC Final. Earlier this year, he slammed 345 runs against England at home series at an impressive average of 57.5. He had slammed a century and a half-century during the 4-match series.

Rohit Sharma is likely to open with Mayank Agarwal while Abhimanyu Easwaran will be a standby opener. Meanwhile, KL Rahul is not considered for opening the batting for India.

BCCI recently rejected the request of Indian team management to send Devdutt Padikkal and Prithvi Shaw as backup options for Shubman Gill. They will continue with Shikhar Dhawan and Co for the upcoming limited-overs series against Sri Lanka.
