India Tour of Australia 2020: The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 32-member Indian squad for the tour of Australia on Monday evening. The All-India Senior Selection Committee met via video-conference on Monday to select the Indian Cricket Team for the upcoming Tour of Australia. Team India will take part in three T20Is, three ODIs and four Test matches against Australia.
While there were some players who were rewarded for their performance in the ongoing IPL 2020, there were some who didn’t find place in any of the three squads for the Australia tour despite performing consistently in IPL 13.
Here we take a look at the top 5 players who have been performing really well in IPL 2020 but have been ignored by the Team India selectors for the upcoming tour of Australia.
SuryaKumar Yadav: His exclusion has created plenty of noise even from a few former Indian cricketers. Yadav has been in top-notch form in the IPL 13 in which he has so far managed to score 283 runs from 11 matches at an average of 31.44.
He has notched up the scores of 40, 0, 10, 53, 79, 27, 10, 0, 47 in the lucrative tournament this year. There has also been some match-winning performances included it in. For all his hard work, SuryaKumar deserved a place in the limited-overs squads.
Axar Patel: Not only has he been very effective with the ball for Delhi Capitals in IPL, where he has picked up 8 wickets at an economy rate of 6 runs per over but he has had a couple of useful cameos batting at no.8. The spinner could have been picked in ODI squad in place of out of form Kuldeep Yadav.
Devdutt Padikkal: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opening batsman Devdutt Padikkal has proved his worth since the very first match for the Bengaluru franchise. Playing his maiden IPL season, Padikkal even became the first player in the IPL history to hit three 50+ scores in first four matches of the tournament.
RCB allrounder Chris Morris hailed his teammate and called him the “future of Indian cricket”. Padikkal bears resemblance to former Australia batsman Matthew Hayden, Morris added.
The southpaw has scored 343 runs in 11 matches at an average of 31.18, yet he was ignored by the selectors.
Rahul Tewatia: He has been the flavour of the season for Rajasthan Royals. Tewatia’s 224 runs at an average of 44.80 makes him the fourth-highest run-getter for the team after 11 matches.
Not to forget that his explosive ability with bat has won the Royals two games (vs KXIP and vs SRH) they seemed to lose and his bowling has been dependable. Rahul’s potential to finish games combined with his all-round abilities would have come in handy for Team India atleast in the T20I series.
Ravi Bishnoi: The Jodhpur-born cricketer has risen the ranks quickly and after a good show in the U-19 World Cup earlier this year, he has now taken it a step further in the IPL. The 20-year old has picked up 12 wickets in as many matches for KXIP. The leg-spinner has shown heart and is not afraid to toss the ball. His googlies have foxed even the best and he could have made a good additon to the India ODI squad for Australia tour.
