The All-India Senior Selection Committee met on Monday to pick India’s squads for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia. India’s abundance of pacers and Avesh being in a relatively poor form off late. led him to be excluded from the squad. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is already in the squad and with the addition of Bumrah and Patel, left the door for one other pacer. Youngster Arshdeep Singh was retained in the squad for his recent performances.

Mohammed Shami who last played a T20I in last year’s T20 World Cup has been kept as a standby player in the squad. Avesh Khan, despite being granted plenty of opportunities has failed to impress Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma and thus will have to sit out the tournament.
Avesh Khan featured for India in the Asia Cup 2022 in the opening two games. Against Pakistan, he scalped a wicket by giving away 19 runs. However, in the next game against Hong Kong, Khan leaked runs in a fury. He gave away 53 runs by claiming a solitary wicket. Earlier Khan played a single ODI in Zimbabwe and featured in the India Tour of West Indies series.
