So Close yet so FAR for team India

The mighty Men in Blue were handed a humiliating defeat at the hands of England in the semifinals of the ICC T20 World Cup. Set to chase 169 set by India, the English openers Jos Buttler and Alex Hales steamrolled their opposition to win the game by 10 wickets and with 4 overs to spare.

The stage would have been set for an epic final between India vs Pakistan but to no avail. After the loss, a dejected Rohit Sharma reached his dugout and started crying. The Indian skipper seemed inconsolable after his team’s loss. Sitting behind head coach Rahul Dravid, Rohit was drawn to tears after coming this far in the competition.

It’s pretty disappointing how we turned up today. I thought we still batted pretty well at the back end to get to that score, but we were not good enough with the ball. It was definitely not a wicket where a team can come and chase it down in 16 overs. With the ball we didn’t turn up today,” Rohit said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

When it comes to knockout stages, it’s all about handling the pressure. Depends on the individual as well. You can’t teach anyone to handle pressure. When these guys play the playoffs in the IPL and all that, those are high-pressure games, and they’re able to handle it. The way we started with the ball was not ideal,” he added.
