Sindhu unexpectedly lost the 1st game 14-21 but came back to draw parity by winning the 2nd by 21-13. The 3rd and final game turned out to be a real shocker for Sindhu as Thai players completely stunned her by winning the game and match at 21-10.

Earlier Lakshya Sen clinched a finals berth in his maiden India Open appearance as he beat NG Tze Yong in the semis on Saturday. Lakshya had conceded the 1st game to the World No.60 but bounced back to clinch a 19-21, 21-16, 21-12 win.

Top seed Sindhu, a former world champion, took 36 minutes to get the better of 21-year-old Chaliha 21-7, 21-18 and set up a last-four clash with Thailand’s Supanida Katethong, seeded sixth.

Katethong entered the semifinals after the third-seeded Yeo Jia Min of Singapore pulled out of the tournament due to “high fever”.

The duo have previously met in their careers, with Sindhu clinching a straight-sets win at the Indonesia Masters.
