India have suffered yet another injury blow as Jasprit Bumrah remains a doubt for the T20 world Cup following a back injury. As per information available with Insidesport, it is the same injury that troubled him in 2019 and he has already been ruled out of the T20 world Cup.

“Yes, it’s concerning. He is back in rehab and will get the best medical advice available. The problem is it’s his old injury and that is what is concerning. We have just two months left for the World Cup and he has got this injury at the worst possible time. We are closely monitoring his condition. He is the best bowler in cricket and needs to be carefully managed,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

Bumrah is the latest to hit rehabilitation with Harshal Patel also in doubt of being fit for the T20 World Cup in Australia. The medium pacer suffered a side strain and missed the T20Is against West Indies. He was also subsequently ruled out of the Asai Cup. All-rounder Washington Sundar, who recently made a return to the Indian side for the Zimbabwe tour, is also an injury concern having injured his shoulder in the Royal London Cup.

India have already had a host of absentees in recent times, with vice-captain KL Rahul struggling to remain fit with a host of issues. The Indian opener has played in just two T20Is this year and returns to the Asia Cup squad after a surgery and lengthy rehabilitation. Veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have also missed games in the past due to injuries.

The same is the case with Deepak Chahar, who makes a comeback having last played competitive cricket in February. A wrist injury followed by a back issue forced him out of the IPL and the subsequent India series, but he has now returned for the series against Zimbabwe.

The constant injury problems exist despite Rahul Dravid’s mantra of constantly rotating and resting players, with India having used a whopping 48 players across all formats since 2021. The senior team have been provided ample rest in recent times, with second-string sides playing the series against South Africa, Ireland, West Indies and now Zimbabwe.
