India will be sending a B team on the Zimbabwe tour as the senior team gets an extended period of rest ahead of the much anticipated Asia Cup. Out of action for over 6 months, Deepak Chahar is raring to feature for the Men in Blue. Chahar picked up an injury when India took on West Indies in the 3rd T20I.

In the meantime, he was picked up in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 by Chennai Super Giants (CSK) for a mega-amount of 14 Crores. But, things took a wrong turn when the all-rounder while going through his recovery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) picked up a back injury.

This injury forced him from taking any part in IPL 2022. Following the IPL, Chahar once again missed the 5-match T20I series against South Africa as he continued his recovery. Post the home series against South Africa, Chahar also went on to miss the tour against Ireland, England, and now the tour in West Indies.

However Chahar has been fit for quite some time, but the all-rounder insisted that he hasn’t rushed through his recovery and rehabilitation.

“If I wanted, I could have made a comeback 2-3 weeks ago only. I could have played the T20 series against West Indies. But then, my thought process was that whenever you play, you give your 110 percent. Don’t even play at 99 percent. I believe I should be able to perform better than the time before I got injured,” said Chahar to News24.

Deepak Chahar Eyes Strong return

  • Deepak Chahar has been missing action for 6 months after a prolonged injury and recovery.
  • Chahar will travel to Zimbabwe where he is keen on impressing the selectors to seal a spot in the T20 Squad.
  • Chahar will not have it easy in the Zimbabwe tour with India traveling with 5 pacers including himself.
  • Chahar is not a part of the Asia Cup squad. he however has been kept as one of the three backup options by the Men in Blue.

Chahar will now look to make the best use of the opportunity that he will be getting in the coming days. Chahar will be taking on Zimbabwe for a 3-match ODI series. Though not selected in the Asia Cup squad, Chahar however finds himself on the backup list. Chahar can be called upon if any pacer gets injured ahead or during the AsiaCup.

India travels to Zimbabwe with 5 pacers with the likes of Shardul Thakur, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, and Deepak Chahar. It is highly unlikely that Chahar will feature in all 3 games, however, the all-rounder aims to prove his worth by producing his best performances.

Chahar now eyes a place in the India T20 squad that will take part in the ICC T20 World Cup scheduled to take place later this year.
