Shikhar Dhawan was appointed as captain with KL Rahul still recovering from Covid-19. However, as KL passed the fitness test in time, he was asked to go to Zimbabwe to have some crucial match practice under his belt before facing Shaheen Afridi straight away in Asia Cup.
While some have questioned the decision to appoint KL as the captain at the last moment, he is still the designated vice-captain of the team. Hence, he takes the captaincy role on his return. But the Zimbabwe series will be a big test for him before the Asia Cup. He will have just three matches to get into the rhythm before hitting the ground running in the UAE.
