Parthiv Patel slams Indian team Management for twisting with opening pair
After the first T20 at the Brian Lara Stadium, Parthiv took aim at the Board and said, “All these changes we are seeing in the opening order, that’s happening because they want to try and fit in Virat Kohli in that XI. That’s the reason we are seeing Surya and Rishabh Pant opening. That’s something I feel,” Parthiv said on Cricbuzz.
According to Parthiv the Indian team is testing the combination in order to keep the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda in the Playing 11. These set of players have impressed whenever they have been presented with the opportunity. So when Virat comes back the best possible option for them will be to open the innings rather than sit out of the team.
Suryakumar Yadav move backfires
With Kohli rested for the limited-overs series against WestIndies, the Indian team management surprisingly stunned everyone by sending Suryakumar Yadav to open. He was used as the 9th different combination at the openers position with Rohit Sharma in the first T20I. The move backfired as Suryakumar was dismissed after scoring a quick 16-ball 24. Interestingly, Rishabh Pant, who opened with Rohit during the T20Is against England, came in at number four.

India Opening Pair combinations in last 12 months
The Indian team management has been using the trail and error method with the team combination. While KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma are the first choice pairing, it is worth noting that the likes of Sanju Samson, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant have also been used by the team management to solve the opening pair woes.
The pair combination has primarily been rotated to either rest the players in particular series or the players have been unavailable due to injury.
