Since taking over India’s hed coach job, Rahul Dravid created a strong pool of players to choose from as India eyed to bounce back in less than 12 months from the T20 World Cup debacle in UAE. Dravid succeeded in doing so, offering plenty of opportunities to the fringe players to make their case, bringing India a problem of plenty in team selection.
Dravid eyes a similar result in ODI cricket as the Men in Blue begin preparations for the 2023 World Cup at home next year. While the first team squad featured in the ODIs2 against England, opportunities have been handed to others for the three games against West Indies.
With Shikhar Dhawan as captain, India have named the likes of Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda in the ODI squad. Gill last featured in an ODI game in 2020, while Samson only featured in one ODI game in 2021. Hooda made his debut earlier this year, while Gaikwad is yet to make his debut.
