With a crowded top-order, Sanju Samson has often been overlooked for the Playing XI in T20s despite making his debut back in 2015. It’s his inconsistency that also paved the way for his axe more often than not.

While Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma confirmed that he is in the plans for the T20 World Cup, it’s difficult to find a place with the emergence of Ishan Kishan, who has been in great form.

But not bogged down by the results, Sanju Samson is not leaving any stones unturned to prove selectors a point or two.

Comeback into Team India after successful IPL 2022 stint

Samson enjoyed great success at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 and was seen enjoying his time at the franchise. He became just the second RR captain after Shane Warne to lead the franchise to an IPL final.

Overall in terms of output, Samson scored 458 runs in 17 matches with a best of 55 runs. He averaged 28.63 and played some vital knocks for the franchise that earned him an opportunity to play for India.

While Samson has been in and out of the squad he did make an impact in the two-match T20I series against Ireland. In his only match, Samson scored a knock of 77 runs in Dublin putting up a 176-run stand with Deepak Hooda for the second wicket. India ended up scoring 225/7 as India won the match by four runs.

The upcoming West Indies tour will be first time in a year for Samson to play ODI cricket. His only ODI for the nation came in July 2021 against Sri Lanka and ended up scoring 46. This will be a perfect opportunity for Samson to make an impact and convince the selectors for a long term role in the ODI side.
