IND vs WI LIVE: India vs WestIndies 2nd T20 LIVE: After arriving in St Kitts & Nevis just 48 hours before the 2nd T20, Team India skipped the optional practice session on Saturday. With two back-to-back matches, Rohit Sharma & Co decided to rest their bodies and hit the nets on Sunday evening. However, the sole focus was on Sanju Samson, who got an extended session and took on Indian bowlers at the nets. Follow IND vs WI 2nd T20 LIVE Score & Updates on InsideSport.IN.

India lead in the five-match series 1-0 and the entire squad put up an all-round performance in Trinidad & Tobago. However, they will have a few chinks to work on. Sending Suryakumar Yadav to open with Rohit Sharma was a baffling decision. But it was not without any discussion. With KL Rahul injured and Ishan Kishan’s struggle against fast deliveries, team management wants to have options ready.

The powerplay has been India’s problem with batters struggling to hit the ball from word go. That is the reason Rishabh Pant was also tried in England. But now with just a few matches left to get the combinations right, Team India are trying different options. However, Sanju Samson is another option that India are yet to test.

Samson did well as an opener in IPL. With a 135.02 strike rate in 23 matches, he has more experience in opening than Suryakumar Yadav. But Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma consider him as a top-order batter than an opener. With the five-match series ending in just seven days, Sanju Samson will get a go in the series.

IND vs WI LIVE: Will Sanju Samson get a chance in 2nd T20?

  • It is unlikely that Samson will get a chance in the 2nd T20.
  • He is competing with Deepak Hooda and Shreyas Iyer for that spot.
  • Shreyas Iyer will get another chance before making way for Deepak Hooda as a backup No 3 in Virat Kohli’s absence.
  • Team India will be reluctant to go with three wicketkeepers in the Playing XI as it will limit India’s ability to bowl.
  • The only way Samson fits in the team is in absence of Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shreyas Iyer.
  • However, it in ODIs, where he is going get his chances as India’s current focus remains on T20s.
  • Samson will get extended opportunity on the Zimbabwe tour in three-match ODI series starting August 18.
