It was an absolute shame that the talented West Indies batter failed to get a chance to play in IPL 2022. Despite being bought by debutants, Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022, Mayers wasn’t featured in any game throughout the course of the tournament. Determined to prove his worth, Mayers went on to give a befitting reply to India in the ODI game.
Set to bat first India went on to register a huge target of 309 for the hosts to chase. West Indies lost their opener Shai Hope early, but fellow opener Kyle Mayers spoke with his bat. Leading the charge from the front he went on to target the Indian bowlers and brought up a fine half-century.

Mayers then went on to switch gears as went for the big shots. Mayers was ultimately dismissed by Shardul Thakur not before scoring a majestic 75-run knock, off just 68 balls, consisting of 10 fours and a solitary sixer. Fellow Caribbean batter Shamarh Brooks gave a mighty company to Mayers.

As India started to get worried with Mayers nearing his century mark, Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur went on to give India the much-needed breakthrough. A full and wide delivery saw Mayers trying to hack the ball towards the square area. Unfortunately, the ball went on to take a height and settle in the safe hands of the wicketkeeper.
