Suryakumar Yadav is the World No.1 batter in the T20 rankings, and he was duly rewarded with a vice-captaincy spot in the side. SKY could very well be a long-term option with the futures of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant uncertain. The 32-year-old topped the run-scoring charts for the year. He amassed more than 1400 runs in 2022, with two centuries.
“I was not aware of my vice-captaincy. My dad told me that I had been selected as vice-captain. He’s been very busy on social media,” Suryakumar Yadav told RevSportz. The swashbuckling batsman is in Mumbai, featuring for his state side in the Ranji Trophy. He scored 90 in the first game, followed by 95 on Tuesday.
Suryakumar ticked major boxes in T20 India. The right-hand batter was the team’s leading run-scorer, scoring over 1000 runs at a strike rate of 174. The 32-year-old will be keen to start 2023 on a bright against Sri Lanka. This time though, the onus will more huge as he is also one of the leaders of the side along with Hardik Pandya.
“Still feels like a dream. It is just a reward for my long hard work. I had sown the seeds that’s why the fruits are there to be seen. Hopefully, this patch will go long. We (Me and Hardik) have shared a good bond for a long time now and have batted together as well. So we share a good camaraderie,” SKY concluded.
