IND vs SL: Jasprit Bumrah: IND SL ODI Series – Team India will begin mission ODI World Cup 2023 by playing a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka starting on January 10. Talismanic pacer Jasprit Bumrah will be returning to action after six months. Naturally, India will draft their premier bowler right into the starting XI, but in place of whom that will interesting. In Bumrah’s absence, Umran Malik was breathing fire, and Arshdeep Singh was tipped to become death overs specialist, Now, two young pacers’ place is in jeopardy. With 17 ODIs left before T20 World Cup, Dravid and Rohit would be looking to form the first 11 during the Sri Lanka ODI series. Bumrah is the leader of the pace attack and is an automatic choice in the playing XI. Malik had a dream start to his ODI career in New Zealand, while Arshdeep’s T20 heroics landed him a place in the ODI team. By bringing in Bumrah, Malik-Arshdeep combination is likely to be broken.

IND vs SL ODI: What changes we can expect from team India in the first ODI against Sri Lanka – If Bumrah clears the fitness test in NCA, then he will play the first ODI. Either Arshdeep or Malik have to make way for MI pacer. Mohammed Siraj is set to hold on to his spot, due to his phenomenal performances in the ODI series against New Zealand and Bangladesh.

Siraj took six wickets in India’s last ODI series against Bangladesh. He was India’s standout pacer in an otherwise dismal series, wherein the team lost 2-1. The right-arm pacer has the best economy rate for India pacers in power play. Siraj is also good at death overs. With Siraj having sealed one spot, it is impossible to play both Umran and Arshdeep. In all likelihood, the Jammu & Kashmir pacer might pip the latter owing to his good start in the ODI career.

IND vs SL: Why Umran Arshdeep combo won’t be seen playing together against Sri Lanka?

  • Arshdeep Singh messed up his chances in three ODIs that was part of. The left-arm pacer failed to take wickets and conceded runs 6.76 runs per over.
  • Umran has fared much better picking up seven wickets in five matches.
  • Bumrah is India’s strike bowler in power play and death overs specialist. With Harshal Patel not part of the ODIs, Bumah becomes even more vital at the death.
  • Siraj cannot be dropped as he was India’s best pacer in Bumrah’s absence, picking up 24 wickets in 16 ODIs.
