Yuzvendra Chahal kept India in the game on Tuesday but his spell was not enough as Sri Lanka registered a famous last-over win in the Asia Cup. Chasing 174 to win, Sri Lanka got their with a ball to spare thanks to their 97-run opening partnership between Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis.
India looked down and out in the first phase of the Lankan innings, before Chahal weaved his magic and brought India back into the contest. The wily leg spinner removed both openers in quick succession before prising out Charith Asalanka to put the pressure on the Lankans. Mendis was his 200th victim in international cricket.
Chahal is the 21st player to pick up 200 wickets for team India. The 32-year-old is India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is, with 83 scalps to his name in just 66 games. In ODIs, Chahal has a 118 wickets in 67 matches at a stunning average of 26.39.
