Here at Insidesport, we will take you through 3 big gains and a big worry for Team India from the first T20I against Sri Lanka on Sunday.

1. Yuzvendra & Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s return to form

Yuzvendra Chahal bowled a brilliant spell where he picked one important wicket and gave away just 19 runs in his full quota of four overs. Chahal finding his form back just ahead of the T20 World Cup is a big gain for Team India. He has been the backbone of the team’s bowling and his performance is very important for Team India. On the other hand, Kumar who was struggling with the form announced his return with figures of 4/22. He removed Avishka Fernando, Chamika Karunaratne, Dushmantha Chameera and Isuru Udana in his spell. He bowled the death overs for Team India and we could see a glimpse of old Bhuvi in it.

2. Suryakumar’s flexibility in middle-order

Team India’s new no.4 batsman Suryakumar Yadav continued his purple patch in T20 cricket by slamming a brilliant fifty in the first T20I. Yadav scored 50 runs in just 34 balls with the help of five boundaries and two sixes. In his short career of four T20I, he has scored 139 runs at an average of 46.33 and an explosive strike rate of 169.51. He will be giving a tough run to India’s regular number 4 Shreyas Iyer who is recovering from injury. His flexibility will be key for India in the long run.

3. Keeping option in Ishan Kishan

Even though Rishabh Pant is pretty much the final option for the T20 World Cup as a wicket-keeper batsman for Team India, Ishan Kishan has raised his hand up with brilliant performance in the few chances that he has got so far. However, Ishan has so far not scored runs down the order where he will probably bat after the return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the top order.

1 Worry: Hardik Pandya’s poor form

India’s only pace-bowling all-rounder in the current team, Hardi Pandya’s bad patch is going on for a bit too long now as he failed to impress once again in the first T20I against Sri Lanka. Hardik’s bad form has raised concern for Team India selectors as the ICC T20 World Cup is going to take place in some months and India do not have a like for like replacement of Hardik Pandya. In the first T20I, when he was expected to score runs quickly and give India a solid finish, he ended up scoring just 12 runs in 10 balls. To add to his problems he even dropped a catch in the outfield. Hardik’s batting form is affecting his fielding as well as his batting. Even though he got a wicket while bowling in the 1st T20I. He was hammered for runs as well.
