Fans became angry upon seeing a video where Gaikwad denied a selfie from a groundsman at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the South Africa tour of India. Set to bat first after South Africa won the toss, Ruturaj Gaikwad and his fellow opener Ishan Kishan decided to spend quite some time on the dugout when rain delayed the start of the game. During the rain break, a groundsman approached Gaikwad and sat beside him.
The groundsman then tried to click a selfie with Gaikwad who pushed him after and denied the selfie. Gaikwad was then seen turning his head away to the other side. Though the groundsman asked for the selfie again, Gaikwad apparently refused and asked him to move away.

The action for Gaikwad was not received well by the Indian fans. Fans took to social media to voice their opinion and their frustration as to how Ruturaj Gaikwad disrespected a groundsman.
Ruturaj had a poor outing in the India vs South Africa series. He managed to score just 96 runs in 5 games and has failed to impress the selectors ahead of the ICC World Cup 2022. Gaikwad today scored just 10 runs out of 12 delivers before making a long back to the pavilion.
