In this match, Iyer came to bat in the third over itself, courtesy of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s early dismissal.
For his first delivery, young speedster Marco Jansen banged the ball short and though Iyer did not look comfortable, he somehow got it past Quinton de Kock’s gloves.
However, the subsequent delivery brought about his downfall. He tried to play a good length delivery straight down the middle, but ended up missing it completely. While the umpire initially gave it not out, the decision was changed upon DRS.

Meanwhile, prior to this match, Iyer did not look in good touch at Visakhapatnam as well, as he was dismissed for only 14 runs. Though he scored 40 runs in the second game at Cuttack, it came at a subpar strike rate of under 115.
With Suryakumar Yadav likely to come back straight into the team once he recovers from his injury, Iyer might find himself at the periphery of the Indian team very soon, and not in the middle of it. Understandably, the fifth game of the ongoing series is going to be a make-or-break clash for him.
