IND vs SA Live: Ishant Sharma misses out once again, has the 105-Test veteran played his last overseas Test for India?
Wasim Jaffer had already predicted his axe for yet another Test. He felt the 100+ Test hero’s time has come up in overseas conditions.
“I think so (he has played his last Test for India). If Bumrah, Shami, Siraj are fit, they are the first three seamers. Then you have Shardul and Umesh. Shardul is an all-rounder now so that makes him choose ahead. So, definitely, for Ishant, it will be difficult,” Wasim Jaffer told InsideSport.IN on InsideCricket show.
“Obviously, when you are on long tours, the top seamers will be rested or the line-up will be rotated and probably then a place for Ishant will open up. In that case, he will play a few games. But I feel for somebody like Ishant Sharma who has played over 100 Tests and taken over 300 wickets, I don’t think that is right. So, somewhere I feel he will take a call after South Africa series. I am sure, he must be thinking about this too,” he added.
- Ishant Sharma’s axe comes after his wicketless spells in Kapur Test against New Zealand. He had missed the second in Mumbai due to injury while completely ignored for Test matches against the Proteas.
- Ishant has managed just 8 wickets in the last 5 Test matches. He was also dismal during the England tour where he managed 1 wicket in three Test matches.
- At home, he had also managed just 6 wickets against England in four Test matches. The decline in numbers suggests that it’s the end of the road for the Test veteran with the inability to provide breakthroughs when required.
- Ishant Sharma has the least wickets in 2021 in 8 matches as compared to Mohd Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd Shami & Shardul Thakur.
