Notably, Pant was supposed to be the vice-captain of the Indian team, with KL Rahul being the captain. However, Rahul was ruled out of the series on Wednesday because of an injury, and Pant has now been elevated to the position of a wicketkeeper-batter. Ahead of the series, he travelled back to his college – South Delhi’s Venkateshwara College, where he spent time with his teachers.

Meanwhile, Pant was unaware of the development when he travelled to his college. WHen he was finally informed, he said “It’s a very good feeling although it didn’t come in good circumstances. The news just came in for me as well an hour back so I’m also processing it. I haven’t even digested the information yet. It is a great feeling getting this opportunity, especially in my hometown,”
“As a team, we have thought about certain goals that we want to achieve as a team. We are continuously working on them. We are thinking about the World Cup. In the coming days, you’ll see a lot of changes,” Pant further added. Meanwhile, the first match will be played at Pant’s home ground – Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.
