However, the Indian team has been ripped apart by injuries and thus 7 different opening pairings have been tried out. The most recent change in the opening pair happened today against Ireland in the 2nd T20I when Sanju Samson opened proceedings with Ishan Kishan.
India’s brand new opening pair managed to score 13 runs before Ishan Kishan was dismissed after scoring just 3 runs. Though it is expected that Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are to be the opening pair in the T20 World Cup, Ishan Kishan will be the reserve opener in the squad.

Deepak Hooda had a brilliant season in IPL 2022 for Lucknow Super Giants and thus in the 1st T20I against Ireland, when preferred opener Ruturaj Gaikwad had a sight injury, Hooda slotted into the opener’s spot and went on to hit a magnificent unbeaten 47 run knock.
In the second T20I, Sanju Samson after his exploits in IPL 2022 and waiting on the bench for the India vs South Africa series got his chance at last and went on to replace the injured Gaikwad.
