IND vs IRE LIVE – Rahul Tripathi at No. 3? Former coach of the Indian team, Ravi Shastri has given VVS Laxman a piece of advice ahead of his first Indian coaching stint, in the upcoming two-match T20I series against Ireland. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Shastri said “When he (Tripathi) is there at the crease, the scoreboard is ticking. He doesn’t go behind the edged ball. Shot-making ability, the all-round game that he has, he’s not overawed by any opposition or by any bowler.”

Notably, Tripathi has been given a chance to don the national colours owing to his consistent performances in the Indian Premier League. In IPL 2022, where he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Tripathi scored 413 runs at an average of 37.54 and a strike rate of 158.23.
However, with all of that being said, it will not be easy for him to walk into the Indian playing XI, simply because Laxman will be spoiled for choices in that position. He could opt to play Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav in Tripathi’s position, as both of them are far more experience.
Ravi Shastri, however, feels that it is only right to give the lad from Maharashtra a chance in the playing XI. Elaborating on his opinion, he added “He’s scoring at a great rate. You know which is tremendous at no.3 because he sets it up beautifully.”

Meanwhile, the first match of the series will be played tomorrow, June 16, at the Village in Dublin.
