Ind vs Eng Test series: Shami, Saini likely to join Team India ahead of third Test | Report– India’s pace spearheads Mohammad Shami and Navdeep Shami have recovered from injuries. As per a report, the duo is set to join Team India ahead of the third Test against England in Ahmedabad. The team management has asked both Shami and Saini not to play in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy as the selectors will announce the team for remaining two Test matches. The selection panel may also announce T20 squad.
While Shami had returned to India during Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a fractured right-arm, Saini suffered a groin injury in Brisbane Test.
Speaking to The Times of India, a BCCI source said, “Saini is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. He has bowling at full tilt. The Delhi selectors wanted to have his services for the Vijay Hazare Trophy but Saini was asked to stay back at NCA as he is likely to join the team in Ahmedabad.”
The report further added that the selection committee is eyeing to form a pool of T20 specialist in the domestic circuit. They will train with the India team and NCA. Players such as Sidharth Kaul, Nitish Rana and Ishan Kishan will be part of the pool.
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant, who has played impactful knocks in the last few Test matches, may be eyeing a comeback in the limited-overs cricket. KL Rahul has taken his place in both ODIs and T20s.
The third Test will begin at Sardar Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad on February 24 (also same venue for final Test). The five-match T20 series will commence on March 12. It will be followed by a three-match ODI series against England.
