Ind vs Eng ODI Series – Indian Squad Announced: As reported earlier by InsideSport.co, selectors have decided to ignore Prithvi Shaw & Devdutt Padikkal’s performance in the just-concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy. Instead, the All-India Senior Selection Committee has picked the tried and tested squad under the captaincy of Virat Kohli for the three-match Paytm ODI series against England to be played in Pune. Prasidh Krishna will be the sole new face in the India dressing room. Suryakumar Yadav, who made his T20I debut against England and all-rounder Krunal Pandya, India’s T20I regular, have earned maiden ODI call-ups for the ODI Series against England.

Prasidh, a prominent name in domestic limited-overs cricket for Karnataka, has been knocking on India doors and has finally has been awarded a place. The 25-year-old has had limited time in first-class cricket having played just nine matches for Karnataka. But he has been a regular for Karnataka’s List A and T20 matches. With 81 wickets and 23.07 average in 48 List A games, he has been shining with the white ball. In T20s, he shot to fame with Kolkata Knight Riders and has been a part of the IPL franchise since 2018. While he has been expensive, conceding runs at an economy rate of 8.49 in T20s and 9.33 in IPL, his variations and pace have impressed many.

Even skipper Virat Kohli touted him as a bowler with X-factor. He was also in the scheme of things for the T20 World Cup before the pandemic but it is unclear if Kohli still considers him a probable.

However, the surprising miss is Manish Pandey. The Karnataka captain missed out on the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy due to tennis elbow condition. While he has returned to cricket since and played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, his scoring opportunities were limited. With Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav fighting for the same middle-order position in India’s ODI squad, the road looks difficult for Pandey.

India’s ODI squad: Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), KL Rahul (wicket-keeper), Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Krunal Pandya, Washington Sundar, T Natarajan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Md. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur.

Ind vs Eng ODI Series – Prithvi Shaw, Devdutt Padikkal ignored: Both the players were in top form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as they ended up scoring 827 & 737 runs respectively in the tournament. But owing to already packed top order, selectors were not left with any option but to ignore both champion batsman.
