Jasprit Bumrah has become first pacer in 35 years to lead India in Test. The last pacer to lead was Kapil Dev. Furthermore, Rishabh Pant has been appointed as the vice-captain for the match.
“Rohit Sharma, Captain, Indian Cricket Team is ruled out of the rescheduled fifth Test against England to be played from Friday. Rohit underwent a RAT Test on Thursday morning and returned a positive result for COVID-19,” the BCCI said in a statement.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Mr Jasprit Bumrah as captain for the upcoming Test and Rishabh Pant as his deputy,” the statement added.

- Rohit Sharma has been officially ruled out of the 5th Test which could have been his first assignment as a Test captain in SENA country.
- He is yet to return a negative RT-PCR result after testing positive again on Thursday.

- As Rohit Sharma is unavailable, the BCCI has appointed Jasprit Bumrah as the NEW-CAPTAIN for the Edgbaston Test.
