Walked into bat after the dismissal of Cheteshwar Pujara, Shreyas Iyer was treated with a barrage of short pitch bowling by the England pacers. Of the 26 balls he faced in the innings, 19 of them were short-pitched, with Iyer eventually falling to the bait.

England head coach Brendon McCullum, who was the head coach of Iyer’s IPL franchise KKR, instructed his bowlers to hit him with bouncers from the dressing room and the hosts reaped rewards. Ever since his shoulder injury, Iyer has been susceptible to the short ball. South Africa used it with great effect in the 5-match series against India, while England have also now used it successfully. In the first innings, Iyer has similarly gloved a bouncer down the legside with KKR teammate Sam Billings taking a good catch.
